Restricted Activities List
The purpose of the consultation process is to gather data that will support the scope of practice statement proposed by the CRPNBC and assist the government in developing the regulation for Registered Psychiatric Nurses.
In order to gather accurate information that both reflects the current practice of RPNs, and the needs and expectations of the health authorities, it is necessary to speak directly to registrants and the leadership in the health authorities. Toward this end, we have planned a series of focus groups with registrants, educators, and leaders in the health authority. The focus groups will take place over the spring and early summer. We hope that this on-line forum will facilitate conversation for those who are unable to attend a focus group in person due to distance or time constraints. The intention of the focus groups will be to explore the edges of psychiatric nursing practice with an emphasis on practices that fall within the restricted activities master list established by the government.
This discussion will continue over a 4 – 6 week period. Approximately every 10 days a new restricted activity topic will be posted for discussion. We invite registrants to respond the posted restricted activity and to the comments of others. The discussion will also be monitored by staff at the CRPNBC. Due to staff resources, it will not be possible to respond to all comments; however, where common themes emerge we will endeavor to address these themes.
When responding to the weekly topics, we would appreciate it if you identified your area of practice, for example – acute psychiatry, community, northern nursing, geriatrics, or forensics so we can identify areas of psychiatric nursing that need to be explored as areas for expanded practice. We also ask that you provide examples from you practice that supports your statements.
