It’s official! We have an amalgamation date. On September 4, 2018, the new nursing college will officially come into existence, and begin regulating licensed practical nurses, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, and registered psychiatric nurses. The name of the new college has not yet been finalized.

Staff at the three existing colleges, our various board and committee members, and other stakeholders have been working tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure we’re ready to regulate on Day 1 of our new organization. Processes like registration renewal may remain segmented by designation for 2019-20, but our goal is to be fully integrated by 2021. Public protection remains our top priority.

How will this affect nurses? The transition to the new college should be seamless for nurses. We are amalgamating college operations; however, the four nursing designations are remaining distinct. Nurses will notice a new website, and we’ll have a new physical address once we move into our new office space. But beyond that, access to services, resources and regulatory support should not be impacted.
