Recent changes to Naloxone
On March 22, 2016, Health Canada changed the Federal Prescription Drug list to allow for non-prescription naloxone. As a result, the College of Pharmacists of BC quickly announced updates to the scheduling of naloxone provincially.
Despite changes in the classification of naloxone, CRPNBC’s current limits and conditions found in Scope of Practice for RPNs: Standards, limits and Conditions (pg. 37-39) for prescribing, dispensing, compounding or administering naloxone (Schedule I) are in effect for all classifications of naloxone.
