Education & Continuing Competence
The first step toward becoming an RPN is education in psychiatric nursing. After attaining entry level competencies, each RPN has a responsibility throughout their career to ensure their knowledge and skills are current to maintain the competencies required for their area of practice. To support this, CRPNBC has a Continuing Competence Program that requires RPNs to maintain a minimum of 1400 practice hours in 5 years and complete an annual continuing competence review. RPNs are also encouraged to engage in lifelong learning for their professional development.
